In our courses and individual lessons, the teachers actively try to pick up on the children's interests. In one of our individual German lessons, the teacher discussed a comprehensive football book with the student, who is a passionate football fan.
The following grammatical areas were practised:
Subordinate clauses with the introduction "wenn":
Wenn sich 4 Verteidiger vor das Tor stellen, um Angriffe abzufangen, dann nennt man das "Viererkette".
Wenn ein Spieler dem anderen einen Pass zuspielt, nennt man das "Zuspiel".
The teacher read these passages from the glossary in the football book to the student in a simplified form and then asked him to explain them again. And - lo and behold - the student was able to repeat them in his own words or to repeat the sentences after the teacher. Through this exercise, the children learn the German grammar in an unconscious and playful way.
Relative clauses and prepositions:
Der kurze Pfosten ist näher zum Ball. - Der kurze Torpfosten ist der, der näher zum Ball ist.
Der lange Pfosten ist weiter vom Ball entfernt. - Der lange Pfosten ist der, der weiter vom Ball entfernt ist.
Superlatives:
Real Madrid hat viele Fans, FC Barcelona hat mehr Fans als Real Madrid und Manchester United hat die meisten Fans.
